2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Q&A
2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Question: 07 jeep 5.7 hemi ticking/tapping sound, 50k miles how to repair and cost?
I show two engines both use hydraulic self adjusting lifters. It's hard to guess what the noise is without hearing it first hand but it sounds like a hydraulic lifter may be failing. Check the oil level, use an oil with high detergancy, add a quart of Risoline to attempt to clean out the lifters and make sure you have a correct light weight grade of oil in the engine. Get it checked out could be a sign of an oil flow restriction in the engine but could be as simple as an exhaust manifold or gasket leak. - patrick mannion
Those HEMI engines always had this problem. It is normal sound. That is not just me saying this. http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-3069.html - euromech
i agree with pat and iv had several of these with very small exhaust leaks. i rec you change the manifold if it is leaking. they are cheap and slightly more than just resurfacing them - globalhelper
